The 55th Annual Consortium on the Revolutionary Era, 1750-1850, Call for Papers

***

Auburn University and Columbus State University will co-host the 55th annual conference of the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era (CRE) at the Auburn University Hotel and Dixon Conference Center in Auburn, Alabama, from Thursday, February 27 to Sunday, March 2, 2025.  Auburn is a friendly university town set in the rolling hills of east Alabama and boasting a vibrant culinary scene (with several restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel.) The town is conveniently located along Interstate 85, and a shuttle bus runs regularly from Atlanta international airport directly to the hotel.

We are pleased to welcome Lynn Hunt (UCLA), Sarah Chambers (University of Minnesota), and Beatrice de Graaf (Utrecht University) as our keynote speakers.

The conference organizers are calling for papers on any topic related to the period 1750-1850 in any geographical location. While the conference has traditionally welcomed scholars focusing on Europe, the United States, and the Atlantic World, we encourage panels that expand our understanding of the Revolutionary Era in Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, Africa, and all places in between. We seek a wide range of presentations, including traditional panels (consisting of three paper presenters and a chair), roundtables, workshops, or lightning sessions devoted to recent scholarship, pedagogy, and professional concerns. Submissions of pre-organized panels and roundtables are strongly encouraged but we also welcome individual papers from faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars working in any discipline and on any topic exploring the Revolutionary Era.

Panel and paper proposals must clearly explain their topics and questions in ways that will be understandable to the broad constituents of the CRE, not only to those interested in the specific topics in question.

The CRE publishes Selected Papers with our affiliate Age of Revolutions, an open-access journal with an international scholarly and general readership.

Submission Instructions

We encourage the submission of full session proposals. Individual paper proposals will also be considered.

Session proposals should include a panel description; a brief abstract for each paper (no more than one page); a brief CV for each participant (no more than two pages); and an indication of AV needs, if any.

Individual paper proposals should include a brief abstract (one page); brief CV (no more than two pages); and an indication of AV needs, if any.

Roundtable proposals must include a session title; the full name and institutional affiliation of each participant; a brief abstract (one page) summarizing the roundtable’s themes and points of discussion; a brief CV for each participant (no more than two pages); and an indication of AV needs, if any.
